Hunter has a comment on his site.

This? (I notice the url is from www.dead.net )
"The ascendency of the shrill and the exodus of the thoughtful. Present company excluded, of course." :)

I still see stuff when I go to either http://dead.net or http://www.deadnetcentral.com/ though. Do the comments mean I am not supposed to, or that I soon won't be able to?

I too am confused. www.dead.net is the same as it has been since its major revisions a while back. From that site you get to the gdstore (gdstore.com) just as always. And all the downloadable items are there (Dick's Picks, vault releases, etc.). These are also at itunes, but more options for quality formats at gdstore. I see nothing that has changed.

Now, if these posts are about gdlive, that's another matter. that site is currently not available, but as others have said, it comes and gos frequently....

Notice there is no new download for may? Also follow the link Diana supplied to Hunter's comment. The webpage is still up, and you can probably still order stuff--I don't know--but all the rumblings indicate that the group that ran the business interest has gone broke.

For those who want to post messages on Dead.net and try to register and log on you will be locked out. If you were an active user recently you may be able to still log on but those who log on infrequently or were used to the old system that allowed you to reregister if you forgot your password (me)are out of luck. You can still order from merchandising and view much of the site (except archives!)but posting messages is impossable for most. I was trying to post a message before Ramrod died to share a 1974 winterland picture of the roadies and Bill Graham playing volleyball, just a memory of good times past. Given what I've seen on the site since "it realy doesn't matter anyway" . Thanks Dianna for the link to Hunter's post it did fill in some gaps

Ah shoot, well I was infrequent and always forgot my pwd, so that's it for the other one...

If some folks would like to post links to other active/substantive Grateful Dead forums (there are many years' worth on the net), this might be a good time. This present IA forum is only the newest kid on the block.

The grandaddy, well predating dead.net:
Usenet's rec.music.gdead, (its old mail gateway used to be called dead-flames :) )

I was talking to another famous musician in the extended Grateful Dead family a few months ago. He knows better, THAN WE DO, about how GDM runs their retail business. And Mr. X flat told me that he would never let them be his distributor of CDs or DVDs.

It isn't because of this archive or the easy access to bootleg sound boards. Mr. X still allows his shows to be posted here too, which includes sound boards and FM radio broadcasts...

So did Mr. X recommend a particular Grateful Dead forum instead of dead.net? ;)

I assume you mean the good Mr. Lesh. Phil is the vooice of jerry these days--a good spirit.

I missed your point--other than his personal animosity towards the corporate dead--a viewpoint that he's always had-- a viewpoint which I respect. Though--isn't he starting to sell his live shows via download? Just bypassing the middleman?
